Dugald River mine: Two Queensland miners lacking as new facts arise on how incident unfolded

There are determined fears for two workers after a 30-tonne drill rig plummeted 25 metres into the pit of a distant Queensland mine.

The workers reportedly turned trapped inside a stope – a hole utilized to excavate minerals from the mine – at the Dugald River mine, about 70 kilometres from Cloncurry in the state’s northwest, just after a drill rig fell into the mine pit on Wednesday early morning.

It is recognized component of the workers’ ute was learned in the particles at the bottom of the pit just after the auto partly fell into the stope in the course of the incident, ABC reviews.

It is thought personnel who initial uncovered the ute though assisting the drill operator – who was hurt but survived the incident – attempted to get to the lacking miners more than radio.

Law enforcement and unexpected emergency products and services were known as to the scene at about 1.05pm.

Search and rescue groups are using drone cameras to uncover the two personnel trapped in the gap. 

MMG Minimal said in a statement: ’Two Barminco personnel working at MMG’s Dugald River mine in Queensland have been this early morning concerned in an incident and at this time continue being unaccounted for.

’The site’s unexpected emergency reaction has been activated and is working carefully with Barminco and authorities to guide in research and rescue endeavours.

’Operations at Dugald River have been halted whilst the search is underway.

‘MMG has extended all obtainable assets and assistance to Barminco and the Dugald River mine.’

Barminco is a hard rock mining service owned by Perenti, a worldwide mining group.
