Knockout: Lionsgate

Lionsgate’s John Wick: Chapter 4 – starring the ‘head-splitting’ Keanu Reeves – absolutely dominated at the box office in its opening weekend by amassing $73.5M domestic from 3,855 theaters.

In fact, Chad Stahelski’s $100M-budget fourth installment of the action franchise landed the No. 1 spot in all 71 markets and, adding the $64M overseas receipts, the hitman slayed with $137.5M globally – according to Deadline.

For perspective, the original John Wick trilogy collectively earned $584.8M at the global box office.

Not only was JW4’s earnings a franchise best, it was also the biggest opening of any R-rated Lionsgate release since the COVID-19 pandemic.

The two-hour and 49-minute offering boasts an impressive ‘certified fresh’ 95% critic approval rating (out of 238 reviews) and 95% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.

Fans worried about Wick’s fate at the ‘ambiguous’ end of the film can rest easier knowing producer Basil Iwanyck told IndieWire on Sunday he’s eager to explore ideas for a fifth ‘if the [fourth] movie does really well and people love it.’

The Beirut-born 58-year-old already reprised his beloved character in Len Wiseman’s upcoming John Wick spin-off, Ballerina, starring Oscar nominee Ana de Armas.

The Cuban 34-year-old replaced real-life professional ballerina Unity Phelan, who played the grieving ballerina-turned-assassin Rooney in John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum back in 2019.
