We love to celebrate our pets every day of the year, but some animals have their own yearly holiday where you can celebrate them just a bit more. And one of those animals is the Pug! This ancient Chinese breed is known for being entertaining and is one of the most popular worldwide. So, if you have a Pug, get ready to celebrate National Pug Day!
But when is this holiday? What does it consist of, and how exactly do you celebrate it? National Pug Day is October 15th each year. As for what it is and how it’s celebrated, keep reading to learn all you need to know!
What Is National Pug Day?
National Pug Day is a holiday created by Colleen Paige and observed on October 15, 2012. Paige is a celeb pet lifestyle expert, as well as an advocate for animals, who has created numerous pet holidays, including National Wildlife Day, National Cat Day, and National Dog Day. In fact, National Pug Day is an adjunct holiday for National Dog Day (a holiday started by Paige 8 years prior).
The main purpose of National Pug Day is to celebrate our Pug friends and to encourage people to adopt a Pug from a rescue or shelter (rather than purchasing one via a breeder or pet store). And there are many ways you can celebrate the holiday!
The 6 Ways How National Pug Day Is Celebrated
National Pug Day is celebrated in a variety of ways, and you can do all or some of them to join in.
1. Hang With Your Pug
The simplest way to celebrate National Pug Day, of course, is to hang out with your own Pug (if you have one). Make a day of it by giving your dog all its favorite treats and doing all its favorite activities. As long as you and your Pug are together, that’s all that matters!
2. Adopt a Pug
Since National Pug Day is a day to encourage interested people to adopt a Pug, then you might want to do just that. If you’ve been considering getting a Pug, why not check your and rescues to see if one is available? This way, you get to celebrate this holiday by saving a dog’s life and getting a new friend!
3. National Pug Day Events
Depending on where you live, you might find a Pug-related event happening on National Pug Day. Some people enjoy holding competitions or mini-dog shows on this day, so check out social media or event sites, such as Eventbrite, to see if there are any you can participate in.
4. Social Media
Another easy way to celebrate National Pug Day is by going online to share pictures and videos of your favorite Pug. Use #NationalPugDay if you post anything to join the online conversation about Pugs. And sharing how much you love and enjoy your Pug could encourage other people to finally adopt one of their own!
You might also consider donating time or money to a local shelter or Pug rescue. Shelters and rescues can almost always benefit from a few extra bucks or a helping hand. Plus, if you volunteer, you’ll get to hang out with a bunch of dogs, and what’s more fun than that?
6. Enjoy Movies With Pugs
And if you’re more in the mood for something super low-key, sit back and relax with some movies featuring pugs. There are more than you might think, including Men in Black, The Campaign, The Big Wedding, and more!
National Pug Day is celebrated each year on October 15th and was created by Colleen Paige, a celeb pet lifestyle expert. This holiday is essentially just a day to celebrate your favorite Pug (and Pugs, in general) and to encourage people to adopt a Pug (particularly via a rescue or shelter).
You can observe this holiday in several ways, from something low-key, like a day with your pup, to something a bit more active, such as volunteering at a Pug rescue. Whatever you do to celebrate, though, enjoy!
