Over the past month, both the Wall Street Journal and NPR have reported on the decline of downtowns in many markets as retail and office vacancies increase in many central business districts as more residents and businesses look to the suburbs for growth. However, Sacramento and San Antonio, a pair of secondary markets of comparable size and growth patterns, have seen increased growth in their downtown areas.
