Reduced Retail Demand in Oakland Has Little Effect on Space Availability


The overall retail availability rate in Oakland, California, has been hovering around 5% since the third quarter of 2022. The market has not recorded retail availability rates that low since the pandemic-related store closings began in early 2020. Coming out of the pandemic, demand from retailers has shifted with more experiential, discount and home improvement retailers have emerged to take more space.
