Andy Murray could avoid the prospect of a horror clash with Novak Djokovic at Wimbledon with the prospect of being seeded still a possibility.

The 36-year-old is preparing for the tournament at the All-England Club which is due to get underway on July 3, lasting for two weeks.

However the Scotsman’s preparation didn’t go to plan after he endured a crushing first round defeat at the Queen’s Club Championships, losing to world no.18 Alex de Minaur.

With Murray needing to reach the quarter final to be seeded for Wimbledon, it appeared that he was set for a rough road ahead.

However that could now change as injuries strike his fellow competitors.

Karen Khachanov has been forced to withdraw from the competition, while Matteo Berrettini is also a major doubt for the tournament in SW19.

Following Khachanov’s withdrawal, Murray would need just four withdrawals to become a seed in the competition.

In doing so, Murray avoid a first round clash against top seeds including Djokovic, Carlos Alcaraz or Daniil Medvedev.

Asked if he can beat most of the seeded players this year, he said: “Yeah, I think so.

“Obviously grass, there are less players that are probably comfortable on the surface than the clay and the hard courts.

“Some of the seeded players are maybe not that comfortable on the grass, so there’s some draws that are better than others.

“There are also guys that are not seeded but love the grass courts and it’s their favourite surface.

“So, yeah, let’s see what happens now.”
