And with the chance to restore Arsenal’s two goal advantage and make the score 3-1, Saka shanked his effort well wide to stun the away fans at the London Stadium.
It turned out to be a massive miss as Jarrod Bowen scored a beauty just moments later.
With the ball high in the air, the winger expertly converted the volley past Aaron Ramsdale at his near-post.
Arsenal are in desperate need of a win to restore their six-point lead over Manchester City.
But the Gunners are in danger of blowing yet another two-goal lead, a week on from doing so against Liverpool.
They raced out the blocks when Gabriel Jesus and Martin Odegaard netted early.

It looked like West Ham were set to roll over but they regrouped and have led an impressive fightback.
Said Benrahma halved the deficit just before half-time when Gabriel fouled Lucas Paqueta in the box.
And Bowen’s strike has brought them back to 2-2 after a rapid start to the second-half.
