Chelsea fans spot major Man City error with Sergio Aguero Twitter post

Chelsea fans were quick to jump on Manchester City’s social media team, who forgot their most siginificant defeat to the Blues.

In a since deleted tweet, Man City threw back to Sergio Aguero’s ‘final game’ for the club, a 5-0 win over Everton, but they forgot he played a very big match after that.

Aguero’s last game for the Citizens was in fact his most disappointing of the lot, a 1-0 defeat to Chelsea in the 2021 Champions League final in Porto.

That match came a week on from the Premier League finale against Everton, with City clearly eager to do an ‘on this day’ style tribute to their all-time top goalscorer.

They captioned the post ‘2 years ago today, @aguerosergiokun played his final game for City!’

Aguero will have wished that was his final game, as it saw two goals in a hammering of the Toffees before his teammates lifted him in the air to celebrate the club legend’s career.

The scenes a week later for his actual farewell were very different, as Aguero was left in tears walking past the Champions League trophy with a runners-up medal around his neck.

Kai Havertz’s goal was enough to decide the 2021 final, with Aguero then moving to Barcelona on a free transfer in the following weeks.

That dream move was dealt an early blow when his good friend Lionel Messi departed, and ended in tragic circumstances when he was forced to retire with a cardiac arrhythmia at the age of 33.

A legend of the game, Aguero is the Premier League’s all-time top scorer, and fifth highest scorer of all-time with 184 goals in 275 games.

Sadly for him, he was unable to add a Champions League win to his incredible CV, but will undoubtedly be in attendance when strong favourites City take on Inter Milan in the final on June 10.

That was the case back in December when Aguero saw his Argentina win the World Cup against France.

The Buenos Aires-born star was quickly on the pitch in an Albiceleste shirt to celebrate the glory, and will surely want to do the same if City see things through in Istanbul.
