Daniel Dubois looking to follow in footsteps of Joe Calzaghe, Prince Naseem Hamed and man who KO’d Mike Tyson by pulling off victory against Oleksandr Usyk

Promoter Frank Warren is convinced Daniel Dubois will pull off an upset victory against Oleksandr Usyk.

The Hall-of-Fame promoter has seen a number of fighters he has worked over the years with take on tough challenges and win, and now believes Dubois will do the same.

One of those men was former world title challenger, Danny Williams, who travelled to the USA in 2004 and pulled off a huge upset victory over Mike Tyson.

And Warren made reference to this while at the London press conference for Usyk vs Dubois ahead of their clash on August 26 in Poland.

At the press conference, Warren said: “I believe this is going to be Daniel’s moment… I’m a big believer that there’s moments and timing in boxing and the best punches are all about timing… and I believe this is Daniel’s time.”

He continued: “I genuinely believed when Danny Williams went to the states to beat [Mike] Tyson he would do it, and Daniel is a better fighter than Danny.”

Warren also revealed that he predicted ‘Prince’ Naseem Hamed would beat Kevin Kelley when they clashed at Madison Square Garden in New York in 2004 and he was correct.

And he believed Joe Calzaghe would come out on top against Jeff Lacy when they fought in 2006 and once again he backed the winning fighter.

Warren gave Usyk his credit, describing him as ‘the best cruiserweight of this century’, but he believes a ‘young and hungry’ Dubois will provide him with a test that he has not yet experienced at heavyweight.

This comes despite the fact Usyk has already beaten fellow British heavyweights Derek Chisora and Anthony Joshua.

But, Warren labelled Chisora as a ‘gatekeeper’ who ‘always fights well enough to come second’ and he said that Joshua didn’t look like he wanted to be there when he fought the Ukrainian.

Whereas against Dubois, Warren believes this will be the first time Usyk has fought a heavyweight who is not on the decline.
