Arsenal vs Leeds United predictions

We are fast approaching the home straight.

Arsenal have just 10 Premier League fixtures remaining as they seek to win their first title since 2004. As domestic football gets set to resume this weekend after the international break, Mikel Arteta’s men may have the chance to move 11 points clear at the summit of the standings.

To an extent, that opportunity is out of their hands. Manchester City face Liverpool in the early kick-off on Saturday. A win for Pep Guardiola’s side would trim Arsenal’s lead to five points.

But despite the fact Liverpool have underwhelmed for much of the campaign, it is not beyond the realms of possibility that they pick up something at the Etihad Stadium.

That would give Arsenal the opportunity to increase their advantage in top spot and leave City with a huge amount of ground to make up.

The Gunners still have some tricky fixtures on the horizon. They are due to visit Anfield next weekend and will face City in Manchester on April 26. Home games against Chelsea and Brighton & Hove Albion will not be straightforward either.

But make no mistake: Arsenal are in a fantastic position as we enter the business end of the season. A victory over Leeds would move them another step closer to an improbable title triumph.

Arsenal vs Leeds United betting tips

Javi Gracia has made a promising start at Leeds, but avoiding defeat by the Premier League leaders will be difficult for his relegation battlers.

Arsenal/Arsenal half-time/full-time – 5/6 (bet365)

Whereas Manchester City are still competing on three fronts as we get set to enter April, it is a case of Premier League title or nothing for Arsenal.

Arteta’s side were knocked out of the Europa League by Sporting CP in the round of 16, leaving them free to concentrate on their bid for a 14th English championship crown.

Any concerns about a potential post-Sporting hangover were extinguished by half-time of the subsequent clash with Crystal Palace, with Arsenal having established a two-goal cushion at the interval.

Leeds should put up more of a fight than the beleaguered Eagles, but it is hard to see anything other than a home win in this one.

Arsenal have generally been quick out of the blocks this season and we expect that to be the case again here, especially as they have had two weeks without a game.

No team has a better record in the first half of Premier League matches than Arsenal, who have been ahead in half of their 28 games up to now.

Leeds have their own strong need for points as they battle against the drop, but the hosts are likely to prove too strong at the Emirates Stadium.

Both teams to score – 19/20 (bet365)

If there is one area of concern for Arsenal it is their defensive record in recent weeks. The Premier League leaders have become more porous since the World Cup and Arteta will hope to see his side recapture their solidity as quickly as possible.

Before the tournament in Qatar, Arsenal gave up an average of 0.8 expected goals per game. Since the World Cup, that figure has risen to 1.1.

The same trend can be observed with regards to the actual goals. Pre-Qatar, Arsenal gave up 0.69 goals per match on average. Since Boxing Day they have conceded 1.07 goals per top-flight encounter.

Somewhat surprisingly, this has been more of an issue at home than away. Arsenal have shipped 17 goals at the Emirates Stadium this season, compared to just nine on the road.

Leeds could take advantage this weekend. They have taken seven points from a possible 12 under Gracia and have scored seven goals in his four games at the helm – including four against Wolverhampton Wanderers in their most recent outing.

We fancy Arsenal’s chances of picking up another three points on Saturday, but a clean sheet could be beyond them.

Bukayo Saka to score any time – 6/4 (bet365)

It is not exactly news that Bukayo Saka is an exceptional talent, but the Arsenal man gave further evidence of his excellence over the international break.

Saka starred in England’s victories over Italy and Ukraine, as Gareth Southgate’s side made a perfect start to their Euro 2024 qualification campaign. He has now returned to north London looking to get Arsenal over the line in the title race.

While it is not yet certain which two of Leandro Trossard, Gabriel Martinelli and Gabriel Jesus will be included in the starting XI against Leeds, Saka is guaranteed to feature from the first whistle.

Undoubtedly one of the first names on Arteta’s team sheet, the 21-year-old has been directly involved in 22 goals this season.

He is already into double figures for both goals and assists, an achievement that no other player in the Premier League can match.

Saka is full of confidence right now and he will fancy his chances of adding to his tally against a Leeds team that is still shipping goals under Gracia.

The Whites have only kept one clean sheet away from home in 2022/23 and they will struggle to keep Saka and co. under wraps.
