Venting on team radio after the incident, Gasly said: “Should be banned for such a thing! I’m coming at 300 [kmph] like what the f*** do they think?!”
His Alpine team principal, Otmar Szafnauer, then told Sky F1: “It’s ridiculous in a word. Just terrible.
“Pierre would have been P6, and now he is out in Q1, had he just had a normal third sector.
“Looking now most are on inters. If it doesn’t start raining it will crossover in this [Q2] qualifying session.”

It was then announced that the race stewards noted the incident for ‘impeding’ which is likely to bring much comfort to Gasly who will start a provisional 17th for Sunday’s race.
He was later seen furiously walking down the pitlane with his helmet on.
More will follow.
