The 149th renewal of the Kentucky Derby sets off on Saturday night, May 6 at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky.
The Derby is a race steeped in history in the US and is competed on the dirt track over 1m2f, with £1.5m ($1.9m) in prize money for the winner.

Took a big step forward last time out at Turfway Park to beat Major Dude by over five lengths.
He will need to overturn an 11 length deficit from October at Keeneland to the favourite Forte, who won the Claiborne Breeders’ Futurity.
But Forte’s last run doesn’t suggest there’s the dependability in huge races like this and it can all come down to tactics on the day and stall draw for instance.
Importantly, this horse has never finished out of the top three and although this step up to a Grade 1 demands more his latest form is a great indication that it’s very possible.
Derma Sotogake 10/1
Japan’s horses have been featuring more and more in the Kentucky Derby and their ability cannot be dismissed in big races, especially when looking at their international prowess from Ascot to Sha Tin.
Derma Sotogake represents the country’s best chances of a win at Churchill Downs and isn’t too much of a longshot at around 10’s in the market.
The three-year-old trained by Hidetaka Otanashi has already proven himself on the big stage, with a win in the UAE Derby by over five lengths.
Also beating Continuar who reappears alongside Derma Sotogake here as a 50/1 outsider.
To win by such a distance indicates that this horse can keep progressing and is well within range to reel in these horses from the US on their own turf (or dirt).
The chestnut colt will be an eyecatcher in the parade ring before the off and will likely see plenty of money in the lead up to the race.
