Man City transfer target scores screamer against Wales - and Turkish wonderkid has dirt-cheap release clause

Turkish wonderkid Arda Guler caught the eye against Wales, scoring a stunner ahead of a busy transfer window.

The 18-year-old has been the talk of the town after a sensational campaign with Fenerbahce that has alerted some of Europe’s biggest clubs.

And that attention will surely only grow after scoring a stunning goal in Turkey’s 2-0 Euro 2024 qualifying win against Wales on Monday night.

Mehmet Umut Nayir scored in the 72nd minute but the best was to come when Guler made sure of the result late on with his first goal for his country.

And he did so in style as the teenager curled one in with his left foot from outside the box that flew into the top corner, leaving Danny Ward statuesque.

It led to a huge reaction on social media, with fans desperate to see Guler play for their respective clubs.

One fan wrote: “This kid has venom, I would love to see him in our right half space in the future.”

Another posted: “Turkey’s best ever player in the making. Arda Guler.”

While a third said: “We would be mad to pass this up, superb young talent – Arda Guler.”

Interest is high in the youngster with links from Newcastle and Liverpool but Manchester City appear to be winning the race.

According to Turkish outlet Fanatik, the treble winners sent scouts to keep tabs on the midfielder last season.

They have since reported back to the club that Guler is indeed a top talent and a move could come in the current transfer window.

Ilkay Gundogan could leave the Etihad this summer while long-term solutions to Kevin de Bruyne, who turns 32 later this month, will need to be sought after.

And City could capture Guler for a low fee considering the interest in his services and his talents.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the Fenerbahce star has a release clause worth just under £15million, which would be a snip in today’s market.

Guler can play on either flank but prefers to operate in the No. 10 role, where he can utilise his skill of passing and creativity.

But his penchant for stunning goals has already made him a fan favourite in Istanbul, where he is one of the first names on the team sheet.

He was even given the No. 10 shirt last summer when Mesut Ozil left Fenerbahce in acrimonious circumstances.

And he made 35 appearances last season for the Turkish club, scoring six in the process.
