Rio Ferdinand has named four players Manchester United, including Harry Maguire and Scott McTominay, should offload this summer.

The win ensured the Red Devils secured third place ahead of Newcastle with both clubs claiming a place in next season’s Champions League.

With a return to Europe’s Premier club competition confirmed, Ten Hag is expected to begin a restructuring of his squad which would see a number of the club’s players shipped out.

With takeover talks moving at a slow pace, Man United need to raise funds to ensure Ten Hag has the best chance of acquiring his targets this summer.

The Dutchman has prioritised signing a striker in the upcoming transfer window and hopes to add a midfield as well as strengthening other areas of his squad.

But first, they must find a way to move on some of their stars that no longer have a future at the club and according to Ferdinand, there are four names that could help raise some extra funds for Ten Hag.

[Scott] McTominay hasn’t played much football, not as much as he would like,” Ferdinand told Vibe with Five podcast.

“If I was him as a young player I would probably start assessing that situation and start having real hard conversations with the club [asking them], ‘do you see me as part of it or not?’.

“If I’m that far down the pecking order I would start looking and I don’t think he will have a problem finding a club, he is a very good footballer and he can add a lot of value. Harry Maguire has to look at a new option for himself. Unless he says he’s happy to be third or fourth choice.

Anthony Elanga maybe [is another], he is not getting a chance. Anthony Martial has proved that he can’t stay fit. I think if you got rid of those four, there is a £100million sitting there.

“Elanga isn’t getting the football he deserves. He did well when he came in and still isn’t getting a chance. Big players in front of him but he wants to be playing first team football.”

United have continuously been linked with moves for Tottenham striker Harry Kane and Napoli forward Victor Osimhen as welll as Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong.

However attention is unlikely to turn to transfers until after Saturday’s showdown with City.
