UFC legend Conor McGregor hits out at ‘little ginger sausage’ Canelo Alvarez for dismissing his boxing skills

Conor McGregor has angrily responded to Canelo Alvarez claiming he could beat the UFC superstar with one hand tied behind his back.

‘Notorious’ opened the door for a potential boxing clash with Canelo ahead of Katie Taylor’s highly anticipated homecoming fight against Chantelle Cameron in Dublin last weekend.

“I’m a southpaw, John Ryder’s a southpaw, Billy Joe Saunders is a southpaw – I’ve seen methods,” McGregor told assembled media members.

“I’ve seen things I do, and I know he’s waning. I’d fight Canelo no f***ing problem.”

The former dual-weight UFC champion has only ever boxed once professionally and on that occasion, he was stopped by Floyd Mayweather inside ten rounds.

Alvarez clearly wasn’t impressed by what he saw from McGregor and responded to his confident assessment of their fantasy match-up in a dismissive manner.

“The truth is I haven’t seen what he said because I don’t have my social networks on my phone right now, but I’ll beat him with one hand [behind my] back,” Canelo said.

Always one to stay locked into social media, McGregor soon got wind of Canelo’s comments about him and fired back with an angry Twitter post.

“Canelo you little ginger sausage. I’d beat you with NO HANDS. Don’t forget,” he wrote.

The Mexican superstar is yet to respond and is unlikely to get into a war of words with McGregor who he seemingly has no genuine interest in fighting at this stage of his career.

Canelo has repeatedly distanced himself from crossover fights with YouTuber Jake Paul and former UFC champion Kamaru Usman but does appear to be open to them at the tail end of his career.

For now, the 32-year-old is desperate to avenge his last loss, which came when he jumped up to light-heavyweight to take on WBA champion Dmitry Bivol in 2022.

Meanwhile, McGregor is gearing up for his first fight since suffering a fractured tibia and fibula during his trilogy bout with Dustin Poirier at UFC 264 in July 2021.

The 34-year-old is booked to face Michael Chandler and an announcement about exactly when, where and at what weight that fight will take place is believed to be imminent.
