Vinicius Jr told leaving Real Madrid would 'let the racists win' amid transfer speculation

Vinicius Jr has been told to stay at Real Madrid and show the racists they can’t win by talkSPORT’s Darren Bent.

Real have launched criminal proceedings after their Brazilian winger was targeted yet again by an away crowd in disturbing scenes.

A 1-0 defeat to Valencia at Mestalla last weekend was stopped for ten minutes when Vinicius Jr alleged racist abuse from the home crowd, later on social media condemning LaLiga for their lack of support.

The footballing world jumped to support the Brazilian, but he was left criticising the league’s president, Javier Tebas, for ‘attacking him’ in response.

The incident against Valencia was far from isolated, with multiple accounts of alleged racism away to Barcelona, Osasuna, Atletico Madrid and Real Valladolid.

On top of that, Vinicius was left horrified in January when an effigy of him was hung from a bridge in Madrid, with four individuals from Atleti’s ultra group Frente Atletico since arrested for the act.

In the wake of the Valencia abuse, Vinicius said LaLiga ‘belongs to racists’ and will continue to fight them ‘even if far from here’.

Some took that as a suggestion he could soon leave Real Madrid, but former England striker Darren Bent says it would send out the wrong message.

“I definitely wouldn’t leave,” Bent said on Drivetime. “I think if he leaves he’s almost told the racists they’ve won, it’s like they’ve won and forced him out.

“I’m sure he’s had conversations with people close to him, his wife, his family and I’m sure his teammates have rallied around him, but there is no one on the planet who’s going to force me out.

“I know it’s going to be difficult when you’ve got whole stadiums screaming, which is appalling, but I think he’s got to stay.

“The power that he shows by staying lets them know that they’re not going to force him out, they’re not going to win.”

In the aftermath of the Valencia match, RMC Sport have claimed that Paris Saint-Germain are ready to act should Vinicius Jr decide to leave Spain, while The Sun reports Premier League clubs are on red alert amid the uncertainty over the player’s future.

But as Bent explains, there’s no reason to leave Madrid.

“If I’m Vinicius I’m not going anywhere,” he said. “Real Madrid is one of the biggest clubs in the world, I’m not letting them force me out of that.

“I wouldn’t be angry with [my teammates] because I’m sure they’ve got his back, but there will be a conversation next time, there has to be with how bad this has got.

“There has to be a conversation where they say, ‘whatever you want to do next we’re behind you, if you want to walk off the pitch, we’ll all go with you’.

“That’s important because he can’t do it on his own, he needs allies, black allies and white allies, that’s the only way you can beat this.”
