What can be decided in the Premier League this weekend? Title, Champions League spots and relegation on the line

We are approaching the end of the 2022/23 Premier League campaign, but only Southampton’s fate has been decided.

The title, European places and two relegation spots are still on the line but could be settled this weekend as clubs up and down the country prepare for a final push.

Manchester City are edging towards another Premier League title

This season has been truly incredible, with Arsenal surpassing all expectations to challenge Manchester City at the top, Chelsea are on course for a bottom-half finish, while Newcastle and Brighton look set to earn European football.

The campaign has thrown up so many twists and turns, but with just two weekends remaining, the final finishing positions are starting to take shape.

And gameweek 37 has the potential to settle many of the remaining outcomes.

What can be decided in the Premier League this weekend?

After a gruelling battle between Arsenal and Man City, the Citizens are now on the cusp of lifting a third straight top-flight trophy.

Pep Guardiola‘s men have won 11 consecutive league games to catch and pass the Gunners.

City could win the title before their match against Chelsea if Mikel Arteta‘s men lose to Nottingham Forest this Saturday.

If the Tricky Trees take a point, the Citizens would require a draw to pick up another Premier League title.

If the London giants win, City would need to beat Chelsea at the Etihad.

A 12th straight league win would ensure Guardiola’s men are champions of England once more and keep hopes of a historic treble alive.

If Arsenal lose to Forest, the title race is over

Champions League and European places

The battle for the last two spots in the top four is down to three teams, with Newcastle, Manchester United and Liverpool in contention.

The Toon’s spot in the top four could be confirmed if Aston Villa beat the Reds at Anfield before their game live on talkSPORT against Leicester on Monday.

If Liverpool were to only manage a draw, the Magpies would need just a point at St James’ Park, while a Liverpool win would keep Newcastle waiting.

Eddie Howe‘s men would then need to beat the Foxes to seal a return to the Champions League for the first time in 20 years.

Meanwhile, Liverpool can secure fifth should they beat Villa and Brighton lose to Southampton.

But the Seagulls can guarantee a sixth-place finish should they take three points from the Saints, while they would need Tottenham and Villa to lose.

Newcastle are one win away from elite European football

Southampton have already been relegated, but there are still two spots to be decided.

Leicester are currently 19th on 30 points, and the 2015/16 Premier League champions could be relegated this gameweek.

Should Everton beat Wolves and Forest avoid defeat against Arsenal, anything less than a win at St James’ Park would see the Foxes demoted to the Championship.

Meanwhile, Leeds can also drop out of the top flight if they lose to West Ham and Everton and Forest repeat the same results required to relegate Leicester.
