When is the Championship play-off final?

The 2022/23 Championship play-off final will take place on bank holiday weekend – Saturday, May 27. 

It will be played at Wembley Stadium with kick-off set for 4:45pm.

Championship play-off dates

Here is the full schedule for the post-season fixtures: 

  • Championship Play-Off Final – Saturday 27 May (kick-off 15:00)
  • League Two Play-Off Final – Sunday 28 May (kick-off 13:30)
  • League One Play-Off Final – Monday 29 May (kick-off 15:00)

How do the Championship play-offs work?

The top two teams in England’s second division secure automatic promotion to the Premier League with Burnley and Sheffield United going up this season.

The third and final side is decided by a mini tournament following the conclusion of the regular season.

Two semi-finals (each involving a home and away leg) take place, with third taking on sixth and fourth battling fifth.

The victors of the two respective clashes then meet at Wembley for a winner-takes-all final.
