Lyon has former international teammate Matthew Wade to thank for the bizarre name.

In 2016, Wade started calling the spinner ‘Garry’ after former AFL [Australian Football League] player Garry Lyon.

The Aussie rules icon captained Melbourne Football Club from 1991-99.

It is such an unusual name, but it has caught on and is now regularly used.

Lyon was a famous AFL footballer who is a legend in Australia.

He made 226 appearances for Melbourne and was named in their Team of the Century in 2000.
