Mauricio Pochettino will take charge of his first football match in a year when he leads out the World XI at Soccer Aid tonight.
The Chelsea boss will have to talk tactics with Usain Bolt and Tommy Fury weeks before he can officially iron out plans at Stamford Bridge.
Pochettino explained last month: “I am really looking forward to getting involved in Soccer Aid this year and managing the World XI.
“It is a real pleasure to be part of a match that represents a big cultural moment in this country’s annual calendar – and rightly so, because it raises so much money for Unicef.
“I love English football stadiums, the passion the fans show for the game and the atmosphere they create, so it will be great to feel that again next month.”
Less than two weeks later Pochettino was officially confirmed as the new Chelsea manager so why hasn’t he taken charge yet?
Why is Mauricio Pochettino at Soccer Aid?
As stated, the Argentine coach is the manager of the World XI at Soccer Aid 2023.
He will taking on an England side fronted by Stormzy, with the rapper helped out by a coaching team including Harry Redknapp, current Chelsea women’s manager Emma Hayes and actress Vicky McClure.
Pochettino has been out of work since leaving Paris Saint-Germain last July and is lending his experience to the charity match for Unicef.
When does he start Chelsea tenure?
The Blues have confirmed Pochettino will begin his new role on July 1, leaving him free to be involved in Soccer Aid during the off-season.
The 51-year-old has penned a two-year contract, with an option of a further year.
Ironically, his first Chelsea game will also come with a celebrity factor as his side face Wrexham with Hollywood owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney in America.
