Younger horticulturist Danny Poland brightened up his village and put a smile on his neighbours’ faces during lockdown by planting dozens of sunflowers.
Now Mr Poland, 21, has been nominated for a Queen Consort’s Coronation Champions Award, organised by the Royal Voluntary Support and backed by the Each day Mail.
Mr Poland mobilised residents to sort a Village in Bloom group, which noticed Irthington in Cumbria decide on up a Silver Gilt in past year’s Britain in Bloom competitiveness, whilst Mr Poland acquired a Younger People Winner Award.
And in the course of previous summer’s drought, he shipped between 150 to 200 litres of rainwater a day to the bouquets he planted about the village on a trailer connected to his bicycle.
He reported it was ‘fantastic’ to be place forward for the Coronation Champions award.
